A =

Here is the first entry to the homesteading alphabet. Hope that everyone enjoys this and maybe just maybe you might learn something new!!!

A = ANIMALS.

What is a homestead without some animals running around. So many to choose from, but I will choose the basic ones that we have on our farm.
Chickens- eggs for selling and eating, meat, bug control and just plain entertainment on some days:)
Cattle- for meat, milk, can sell offspring, use milk for ice cream etc.
Goats- milk, meat, weed control, use milk for soap & lotions, can sell offspring
Sheep- meat, wool, can sell offspring
Pigs- meat, lard, scrape cleaners
Cats- mice control,entertainment
Dogs- help herding, security, entainment, sell offspring

I know that there are many other animals to choose from, but this is just a basic list. Animals are one of first thing that I think of when someone says homsteading, farming, or self sufficent. Of course you don't have to have any to be a homsteader or a farmer, but there sure make life ALOT more interesting!

With the price of everything raising we have noticed that alot more people are choosing to have some sort of animals to help with providing some sort of food for themselves or their family...So what animals do you have on your homestead or wish to have?

HELLO......out there!!!!

We are still alive!! LOL There are going to be a few changes to the blog.... No more updates about the father in law(just to depressing)all I can say is JUST KEEP PRAYING!! Going to try to update more often, to try to get more followers;)First, going to try sharing more homesteading info by using the alphabet. (Ex. A = apply, B = buy less)and so on! Excited to see what I can come up with, some days might be longer than others so we will see. It should be FUN so stay tuned!!!

Farm - Down to 5 chickens and Mr Roooster, thanks to a mink helping himself...grr. So the plan is to get more in the very near future as soon as this cold winter is over. Also still going to get calves, maybe a couple of hogs, and a few turkeys. We will see what God has planned for us. Still saving to get some trees planted along the road for noise and wind block, so that is the first thing we are doing this spring!!! Starting to dream about the garden:) Not sure if doing just a basic what we need garden or a over do it garden with trying to sell at local farmers markets.

Family - Kids are doing well, staying healthy so that is all that matters right?? Starting to get into hand embordery, and knitting with the knifty knitty. Hopefully someday I can knit with needles and not get SO confused!!!! MC has taken to knitting with the knifty knitter and has made 2 baby doll hats. She is doing so well at it and seems to really enjoy it!!

Live Simply & God Bless:)

Life has a way of getting out of control at times!!! We are trying to get it back. between the kids and extended family birthday parties. this week/weekend has been a blur and it is only saturday.... and next week/weekend doesn't look any better!!! So here is a run down if I can remember it all;)

Dh has started a new run. Praise God!! The schedule is not perfect, but can't have everything? Right? Sleeping during the day and working during the night is hard on the WHOLE family and thats just leave it at that....

CJ starts skating on Sunday. This will take up every Sunday until end of March. The program that he skates with is Gliding Stars. Since he has Autism this is a great program that gives him exercise, social, sensory interaction all in one activity. He really enjoys this and LOVES his helper on the ice.

MC is doing ok in school. I still feel the need to homeschool her. I think what is holding me back now is fear in myself and having the ability to do it.Today she started piano lessons and this will happen every Saturday. We also received a baldwin piano for her to pratice on. She seems to really enjoy it and is taking to it fairly quickly. We will keep our fingers crossed:)

BL right now is just along for the ride and oh, what a ride it is with this silly boy!! He is doing very well in preschool and is speaking alot more now.Seems to be learning and exploring new things everyday.

On the farm, we still have our horse. I think he will be around for a while(Wink,Wink). The chickens are producing ALOT of eggs. For the month of sept.the total was 462 EGGS. I think that is great since selling the eggs is paying for their feed and giving us eggs as well. Still no calves, but maybe soon:0)The pasture is starting to grow since we have got some much need rain.

I am going to start making more of our food from scratch. I know this will probably not help save us money on the VERY high grocery bill, but atleast it is healthy for us in the long run. I have gotten inspired to due so even more by a blog that I love...8-muddyboots.blospot.com. She has some great tips and is very inspiring!!!! So if you get a free minute, please check her blog out:)

Well better get ready for tommorrow it is going to be another busy one!!! Hope all is well on your homestead.Do you have any tips for saving $$$ on your grocery bill?

Fall & Cheescake Bars

The days are starting to get cooler and the nights you will need a coat. So on my little farm that means fall is coming!!!!!! I LOVE FALL!!!! I love anything to do with fall, pumpkins, falling leaves, coats and sweaters you name it I love it. I wish we could have fall all year long... but I know God has other plans:)

The kids are in full swing of school now. CJ is loving having the routine back and seems to be doing well with all the changes that this new year has brought. MC is doing ok for now, we are still thinking about have her do the k4-k12 vitural academy learning. Still checking into that, but is looking promising since everday she says she never has enough time.... BL is lovin preschool. The teacher says he is the very big help in the class(due to the fact that only 3 return from last year and the other 8 are new kiddos)I still would like to homeschool him too, but we will wait and see since he has speech & OT to deal with too.

On to the farm update....WE NEED RAIN!!!!!!!plain & simple. We dug up the pasture and put in new grass seed, since the horse has butchered it down to China..haha Still waiting and praying for DH run to start up, so we can get our calves.I don't want to bottle feed in the winter, but we may have too. The garden is coming to an end. Still only have green tomatoes. My mom & dad have plenty so I am trying to get some from them to can for juice and sauce.

To the good stuff... cheesecake bars...yumyum. This is DH favorite!!!

Still here....I think

Where do I start... well I guess that I will start with the father in law update. He has started chemo and has shaved his head. Oh boy, does that take some getting use to!!! He seems to be feeling fine. Starting to get tired a little more now.

Kids have started school. I have torn emotions about this. Since I have a very strong feeling to homeschool MC & BL. I would love to homeschool CJ, but with him having autism , he needs ALOT more attention. I have done ABA with him since he was 2 and during the summer. With try to help the other two it could be very difficult to balance. I have been praying about this and will continue to until God shows me the way. I have been looking up different curriculums to try. So I am still thinking very hard about it and still trying to find out what the laws are in Ohio for homeschooling.

DH is still not on his deciated run and who knows when that will happen. They keep saying next week......at least he is working, but the hours are not great and family time is not existent.

In the canning dept, my mom and I have made 3 pints ketchup, 2 pints of green beans, & 12 quarts peaches. We plan on during freezer corn tomorrow. BL has a fever so we will see if it will happen. Still trying to get my pantry done to store all the can goods in. Hopefully we will be able to get it done soon.

So what have you been canning? I still have to post a yummy recipe so stay tuned:)

doctors payday........

Today was a day of doctor appt after doctor appts. I feel like all our $$ that my husband has worked so hard for was just given to the doctor. All we had were just well exams. I am very sure that you all have had days like this!!! My father in law saw his doctor too, but his was for a biospy of the tumor in his lung. We are still praying that this all goes well. He does seem to be doing well with radiation. So we are very thankful for that:)

I need some advice.... I have an interview tommorrow for an aide position with our county school system. It is an part time position (like 3 hours per day), has retirement, possible a chance to get a full time at some point, and I get a chance to get out of the house alittle bit. Ok now the bad, after paying childcare for BL and gas to get there the pay is not all that great:( I feel like I should cancel the interview due to the fact that the pay is not making it worth it.Plus with CJ having autism, I don't want to rock the boat with a different schedule he has been making some good gains since I have been home. I love being a stay at home mommy, but I feel like I really need to have an income to help out. Maybe just maybe, my DH is right I just want to many things!! so I am going to be doing some heavy praying over this and I know that God will show me the way.........

MC is so excited! SHE GETS TO GO CAMPING!!!!! Our daughter is very much a girly girl, but she is all about camping. DH's sister and family try to take her whenever they can since she loves is so much. She leaves Friday and will be back on Monday. I hope that they have nice weather and that she has a blast at Yogi Bear!! I can't wait to hear all about it.

I hope that all is well on your homestead and have a good night!!! Oh, stay tuned I have a yummy recipe to share with ya;)
